My Take: I actually sympathize with Paladino for his encounter with the New York Post. As a father, I might want to use Paladino’s language if they photographed my kid without permission, and I do not believe he was actually issuing a physical threat. And to my eye, the Post’s Fred Dicker wasn’t just questioning Paladino but provoking him during the incident. But here’s the bottom line: Fred Dicker is not running for governor. Carl Paladino is. The attention to the video is obscuring the fact that Paladino did make an unsubstantiated charge about Cuomo’s marital fidelity. After the run-in with Dicker, he admitted to another reporter that he does not have evidence of the charge. The real question about this whole series of events is whether a man who would make up such a smear and spread it to the press has the character to be governor of New York.
