What race/ethnic group/nationality do you consider yourself to be. I know this seems like it's already covered but the possible answers do not give a clear picture. For example, I put down non-hispanic white but I was born in Ireland and consider myself Irish no matter how much I love it here and am happy to be an american citizen - so I should not be part of the white american group. My partner puts down hispanic white but although he is light skinned he does not consider himself 'white' - he feels being hispanic he is defintiely 'other' from white. What about people of mixed nationality / race etc. It does not feel right to answer the form 'correctly' as is but to feel you are misrepresenting yourself.

As a new student of social justice work, I am wondering how knowing one's race and ethnicity will benefit marginalized communities - hasn't history shown that communities of color have less access to resources? How will the census affect change?
