Calypso superstar McArtha Lewis, better known as Calypso Rose, composed her first calypso after witnessing a man stealing the glasses off of a woman’s face in Trinidad, warning people from her native country of Tobago not to travel to the country. She later wrote the anthem "Fire in Me Wire", which became a calypso classic, and held the title of Calypso Queen for five years in a row. Calypso Rose joins us live in the studio for a performance and a discussion of her career.

I first hurd Calypso Rose talk on a Radio Station a few years ago. I'm asking for your help. Ms / Miss Rose was talking about a young boy that use to play for the Mighty Sparrow's when he was yonger. I was listening very closely at this point as if she was talking to me. She was telling the story of a young man/boy. She said she wanted to see again. After finish listen to Ms / Miss Rose i told a family member about what Rose had said. My family member looked at me with a look. A look that said "How do you know" The family member told me that the young man that Rose is talking about is my Father. All i could think of was WoW. Dad never talked about ever playing for the Mighty Sparrow. He would play their Records and Clypso Rose's Records but have never told me that he has ever played in a band. Were i need your help is to reunite (have them meet each other again.) My Father doesn't know that i'm typing this. I believe they should meet each other again. Just listening to Clypso Rose speak of My father it touched my heart so much. I enjoyed hearing the story that my Father has never spoke about. Thank you Rose for shareing the story.
It would mean so much to me if you can help me and if you can't, if you can direct me to were i can find Clypso Rose so i can tell her that i know were the Young Man that she is looking for is.
Thank You for your time.

Calypso Rose is a living legend! In Trini-Toba and all over the world!
OMG! My dad used to play and sing along his Calypso Rose casette everyday as he drove myself and my siblings to school (in Jamaica). He loved Soca and Calypso music
"Fire in me Wire" is my all-time favorite Calypso song, which I learned as a 7-year-old newly transplanted from New York to the U.S. Virgin Islands. I never had any idea that Calypso Rose was still alive! I must thank WNYC for bringing her to the (Internet) airwaves, and thank her for a song that makes me feel happy and extremely young whenever I hear it!
