WNYC presents Orpheus Chamber Orchestra
The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra is coming downtown to WNYC's The Greene Space for a very special event highlighting their upcoming season at Carnegie Hall. Orpheus will present two works, both inspired by J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. They'll perform Stravinsky's Dumbarton Oaks--inspired by Bach but named for the Dumbarton Oaks Estate of Robert Woods Bliss in Washington, D.C. Bliss commissioned the piece for his thirtieth wedding anniversary.
Orpheus will also perform an excerpt from a new commission by Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Aaron Jay Kernis. The new piece is called Concerto with Echos, which is inspired by Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 6. The St. Paul Pioneer Press has called Kernis "a composer of fastidious technique and wide-ranging imagination."
This intimate evening is an opportunity to get up close and personal with the people that make up this extraordinary ensemble, and to learn about their unprecedented multi-year Brandenburg Concerto project.
