Artist Statement
My work is centered on narrative.

Primarily self-taught, I employ all materials and techniques for my work.

My knowledge of paint systems and technique is gained from nineteen century manuscripts on the subject and informative writings from the Old Masters, such as Rembrandt, van Dyke, and Velázquez, just to name a few. All my paintings are done with hand ground colors and binders of my own chemistry. I choose to take these extra efforts so that I may control the painting’s process from the beginning, canvas stretching, to the finishing varnish end.

At some point, as I evolved as an artist, object making and installation entered into my repertoire.

My sculptural ideas are based on real and common objects, which I modify to create new thought relationships. The final modified objects construct relationships to it and contemporary society. The narratives of these relationships are generally sarcastic and poetic in nature. My sculptural objects deal with politics, consumer culture, and the reinterpretation of common objects into design motifs.

The new body of work in bas-relief is an abstract commentary on a fictional society. Each unique shape is a character playing a part in the larger scheme of things. Creating these works has enabled me to brighten my palette, experiment with new materials, and flex my ideas in new technical practices.
